The Battle of the Holden Ute
Marulan Track Day was a blast this year and saw the clash of the titans.
Mate vs mate, ute vs ute. Tony in the BLACK WORKHORSE, Paul in the BLUE BEAST and Evan in the RED RACER, fought it out on the track. It started a little slow for Ev in the Red Racer when a tyre spacer put an end to an early race tyre change. Nevertheless as Evan so eloquently put it “its only money, I’ll have to buy another set of tyres – just don’t tell Emma!”
Once decisions were made about race tyres they were on the track. Tony and his co-driver Jeremy were always going to be weighed down a little with the canopy. Fortunately the tools were removed before he hit the track. Evan and his co-driver Matt had a ball on his street tyres, rubber left all over the track (just don’t tell Emma!) and then there was Pauly…… What had appeared to be a fight on equal ground was soon quashed as the true story of what was under Paul’s bonnet got out. With a new ‘over the radiator air intake’ and tune, his secret weapon was anything but factory produced!
So in true Aussie spirit the great ute muster at Marulan will sure to be held again in 2012.
